Adding a Layer to a Winter Wellness Routine — to Help Reduce Airborne Respiratory Risk

Boarding and daycare kennels live with the constant risk of Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC) — the cluster of airborne illnesses often called kennel cough. Wasatch Canine Camp added the GEIA AYRUS portable dry misting system as a layer on top of its cleaning routine. Here's the outcome they report.

THE CHALLENGE

Lots of Dogs, Shared Air, and a Long Winter

A boarding and daycare facility is, by design, a place where many dogs share the same space and the same air. That's wonderful for the dogs — and it's exactly the condition under which Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC), commonly known as kennel cough, can spread. Much of that risk is airborne, which means surface cleaning alone, however thorough, leaves the air between cleanings untreated.

Winter compounds it: dogs spend more time indoors, ventilation is reduced to hold heat, and a single respiratory case can ripple through a roster of boarders. Wasatch Canine Camp wanted to strengthen its winter wellness strategy with a layer that addressed the air itself — without replacing the cleaning routine that was already working.

WHAT THEY ADDED

The GEIA AYRUS — Portable Dry Misting, Carried Where It's Needed

The AYRUS is GEIA's portable dry misting unit — compact and powerful enough to carry from kennel run to play area to lobby. It disperses hypochlorous (HOCl) as a 1–3 micron mist that fills the volume of a space, reaching the air, surfaces, and the corners cleaning cloths never touch. Hypochlorous is the same molecule the immune system produces; it leaves no residue and is suitable for use in occupied spaces.

At Wasatch Canine Camp, the AYRUS runs as the final layer in the routine — clean, address high-touch points, then mist — to help reduce the airborne respiratory risk that surface cleaning alone can't reach. It supplements the facility's existing protocol; it doesn't replace it.

The AYRUS is portable dry misting equipment — an application method for hypochlorous solutions. It is not EPA-registered as a disinfectant and makes no kill claims. EPA registration belongs to the chemistry — see HOCl Tablets (3.3g and 6.5g Tablets).

WHY IT FIT THEIR OPERATION

A Layer Built for a Busy, Shared Space

🎒

Portable, Carried Anywhere

The compact AYRUS moves run to run, play area to lobby — wherever dogs gather and air is shared.

🌫️

Treats the Air, Not Just Surfaces

A 1–3 micron mist fills the space, helping address the airborne respiratory risk a cloth can't reach.

🐾

An Added Layer, Not a Swap

It runs after cleaning as the final step in the routine — strengthening the existing protocol rather than replacing it.

HOW IT FITS THE ROUTINE

Clean → High-Touch → Mist

1

Clean

The team runs its standard cleaning protocol across runs, play areas, and common spaces — unchanged.

2

High-Touch

Gates, bowls, leashes, and shared-contact points get their usual attention.

3

Mist

The portable AYRUS runs last as an added layer — dispersing hypochlorous dry mist to help reduce airborne respiratory risk in the shared air.

GEIA dry misting is step three. It works alongside standard cleaning practice — it does not replace it.
